I just got to thinking about my [tag]painting business[/tag] yesterday and remembered that my favorite painting jobs are restoration jobs. I like the thought of an old rental property with old-fashion woodwork. The real woodwork that is fun to paint - not the newer stuff that isn't really woodwork anymore in the average home.
The older homes had that dark brown stained trim everywhere that looks great when you clean it up and seal it out with an enamel under body primer and a coat or two of satin enamel. You can then convert it to a nice lighter color or maybe a coffee color enamel. I like to paint the ceiling two coats of flat white, prime the walls and woodwork out, caulk everything up to seal and hide cracks or shadow lines and then finish up with the wall paint and the final part is to enamel the woodwork, windows and doors. That's the icing on the cake!
This is what I call a custom paint job. Not only is it restoration work, it is also giving the interior a beautiful custom paint job. Once done, you can even wall paper the walls and that will make the nice enameled woodwork stand out also. The older homes had detail and great woodwork for enameling but there are still fun projects to paint.
I have a customer who lives down in the student ghetto who owns his own home. While I wouldn't even think of looking for work down there, he has money and his house is paid off from working and renting out the upper story. We restored a couple of rooms for him minus the woodwork. The outside of this house is stucco with nice wood trim also. It looks like it would be fun to go there everyday and restore the exterior.
It would cost a lot and if it was an empty house it would make it all the more fun. No one there to bother you, the owner comes by every week and cuts you a check , reminds me of the early days of my painting business. If two guys wanted to work together, they could have a lot of fun doing great work. I love to paint. Good jobs and good money make it a sweet deal.
Make Hundreds Daily in Your Own Painting Business!
Have you ever wanted to own your own business? I wanted to be self-employed in my own business for years. One day I decided it was time. I was fed up working for a boss that didn't care any more about me than he did any other employee. When he decided to only give raises to a couple of older semi-retirees that already had their homes paid off and had money in the bank, that was the last straw.
You see, I wanted to start my own [tag]painting business[/tag] for a long time. Because I did some small part-time painting jobs on the side while being out of work, I started getting calls here and there after going back to work full time. I finally got to a point one day where I said I have had enough!
So during the end of my vacation time I did something about it. Believe it or not, I got my first painting job lined up within a half an hour. Within a week's time I quit my job and was permanently self-employed and have never looked back at the possibility of working for a boss again.
To cut to the chase, after 16 years as a professional house painter, I have also spent the last four years as a [tag]painting business consultant[/tag].
